Mahamudra Hermitage Project
Maitreya, you should know that all mundane and supramundane virtuous qualities, whether of sravakas, bodhisattvas, or tathagatas, are the result of meditative serenity and insight.

- Buddha Shakyamuni: Sutra Unravelling the Intended Meaning
A Place to Benifit Many Sentient Beings

On the 90 acres of hilly forest land of the future Hermitage, there are plans to have two retreat centers and a main learning and daily activities center - the "Milarepa Meditation Center", the "Naropa Retreat Center" and the "Bodhisattva Dharma Center".

Milarepa Meditation Center provides a suitable place for those who want to spend anywhere from a few days to many months in meditation. The center supports retreatants for both study and meditation, and is designed in a way that balances privacy and convenience for practitioners. The center primarily provides accommodation for two kinds of people in retreat: long-term individual retreatants and short-term group meditations. It also provides common areas such as the Great Pavilions, Library, Reading Room and Dining Hall. The center also has space for the teacher.

Naropa Retreat Center is designed for those who want to do traditional Three-year Retreat, which involves intensive fulltime practices. This is the center where not only practices get individual spiritual advancement, but also where the ancient wisdom is preserved for the future, by means of training new qualified teachers. The center encompasses nineteen rooms for retreatants and helpers, Quarters for the Retreat Master (Drupon), Teaching Hall, and a Yoga Hall.

Bodhisattva Dharma Center has three main parts: the Main Temple, Sangha Residence and the Common House.

The Main Temple provides the location for lamas to perform regular pujas and prayers, for students to study Buddhist scriptures and treatises, for devotees to pray and venerate the Triple Gems. The Sangha Residences serves two main purposes: It is a place for new retreatants to prepare themselves with preretreat training. It is also the place where lamas, having completed their Three Year Retreat, may stay and continue practice and study. The Common House serves as the dining hall and other facility center for the residents and guests.

The Guru House and Visiting Teachers House will be used for the residence of our spiritual teachers.
